Eastside mole control

At present, Eastside mole control is unavailable due to an enactment by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife. Initiative 713, enacted in 2000, has banned the use of “body gripping” traps, like the use of leg traps for coyotes. Its intention was to stop the use of painful and cruel trapping. There were exceptions for the common rat and mousetrap but no exceptions for mole and gopher traps.

These traps are the most effective and efficient way in eliminating moles. Baiting and chemical deterrents do not give same effect. It is unfortunate that this situation has gone on without any resolution to the real problem, which is the elimination of pests. If traps cannot be used, the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife should develop more effective ways to get rid of the pests.
