Grapes aren’t just fruits for the salads, desserts and ingredients. They are the essential component in making wines too. But before one gets to formulate a tasteful wine, he has to know how to grow grapes first. A lot of people are asking–is growing grapes just like maintaining simple and ordinary plants in the backyard? Of course, there are several things you have to consider and they aren’t that easy.

Though quite difficult, following these steps will definitely show you the ‘fruits of your labor’: ~ Choose the type of grape you want to plant (wine, table or slipskin) It is best to ask your local nursery professional which variety of grape does best in your area ~ Plant grapes under ample heat of the sun ~ Amend the existing soil so that it is loose~ provide a trellis or other type of support for the vines. This keeps the fruit above the surface of the soil where it is susceptible to rot.~ Prune grape vines when they are dormant and retain a basic framework and remove long runners to keep plants compact and under control.~ take away long runners mid-season to keep plants under control
