Composting is just one way of recycling or reusing our refuse. There are several ways by which this can be accomplished. A very easy and convenient way is with the use of a compost barrel. You just basically get an old steel or plastic drum and prop it from the ground with pieces of concrete block. This will keep air circulating around the drum.

The process of composting takes kitchen scraps and yard wastes; and covering it up with a thin layer of soil. This process is repeated several times. Let them break down naturally to create soil nutrients that can be used instead of fertilizer. The process will take approximately six weeks. During this time micro-organisms will do their bit to break the material down, causing the temperature of the pile to rise and then fall. After the six weeks is up, turn the pile over so that the outside material is now on the inside, and vice versa, and leave for another six weeks.
