Renewable energy can play a role in mitigating climate change because it uses natural sources to produce energy. In fact it is also referred to as clean energy. Large-scale renewable energy technologies can help in emission reductions, thus preventing worse effects of global warming. Using renewable energy however is not new. Almost two centuries ago, wood was used to supply as much 90 percent of energy needs.

Currently, the five most common renewable energy sources are: ~ biomass (wood, solid waste, landfill, biogas) ~ water ~ wind ~ solar~ geothermal
